From Ash to Houses
A revolutionary building material and process

Recoding and telling the story of Tower technologies has been (and is) an exciting process. Its not often that you get the opportunity to witness and interact with a process that has the potential to have a significant positive social and environmentally impact. As you watch, read and surf the various elements here, you'll realize how ground breaking this all is. There's a lot of great ideas out there, but the true innovation is in the way that these ideas are applied and converted for the betterment of society.

Mike Symon and Tower Technologies have developed a revolutionary construction material that weighs less than a quarter of the standard counterpart (bricks and/or cement). Without wanting to sound too dramatic, this material has the potential to  change the way we build houses - and in the process address one of South Africa's greatest challenges - the housing shortage. The material has gone through every test imaginable and is fully accredited (SABS - NHBRC - Agrement). ChemCity (Sasol's business incubator) recognized the potential in Tower Technologies, and worked with them to find their way through the maze (and hurdles) of bringing the product to market. Confidence in the product is reflected by FNB (First National Bank), who recently funded 3 houses and are working with Tower towards a long term relationship and  Enviroserve (Africa's largest waste management company) who has purchased a significant share of Tower Technologies. Arcay Corporate finance (consultant to Enviroseve) are also playing a significant roll in bringing the product to market.

ChemCity's mandate as a business incubator, as well as their values are reflected in this project, by helping to significantly address the critical housing shortage, reduce waste stockpiles, stimulate the job market, create new skills and... doing all of this in a way that significantly reduces carbon immersions.
